The School of Chemical Engineering is affiliated to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). It is undertaken by Institute of Process Engineering as the leading institute, in conjunction with 12 Institutes.

In the past 10 years, IPE has received 10 national awards and 209 provincial and ministerial awards. Currently, IPE has 1546 valid patents, ranking 4th among all CAS institutes. It has won one Chinese Patent Gold Medal and six Chinese Patent Awards of Excellence. IPE's four disciplines, i.e., chemistry, materials, engineering, and biology/biochemistry, have been listed into 1% of ESI throughout the world. According to the most recent statistics from the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, IPE ranks 15th in China for the number of SCI papers and 9th in China for the number of EI papers.
