The "Belt and Road" Forum on Big-health & International Symposium on Recombinant Collagen was successfully held at the Palace Garden Hotel and Resorts in Beijing from August 21-22, 2023. Co-organized by the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE, CAS) and Northwest University (NW) of China, the forum received support from academic organizations, universities and international science organizations such as the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the China Biotechnology Society, and the "Belt and Road" Committee of the China Future Studies Association. Over 30 domestic and international experts delivered presentations on topics ranging from nutritional interventions and chronic disease prevention to skin health management, collagen, and biomaterial innovation. The event was chaired by Professor Guifeng Zhang of IPE, CAS and Professor Daidi Fan of NW.
During the opening, key figures including Mr. Jinghua Cao, executive director of the ANSO secretariate, Mr. Bangyong Zhou, vice president of the China Health Association, Ms. Zhu Yilin, vice president of the China Anti-aging Promotion Association, and Ms. Cheng Ping, president of the "Belt and Road" Committee of the China Future Studies Association gave welcome remarks. They all emphasized the importance of promoting and strengthening collective efforts and international collaborations in advancing global health, preventing chronic diseases, talent development, and knowledge and tech transfer among the people in the Belt and Road nations. Some representatives and officials from the embassies of Malaysia, Kiribati, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Kazakhstan also attended the meeting, including. Mr. David Teaabo, ambassador of the Republic of Kiribati, spoke on behalf of the international delegates and participants, He expressed strong support and appreciation to the scientific collaboration in public health area under the "Belt and Road" initiative.
The event saw participation of over 200 attendees from both China and abroad, including 30 plus foreign nationals from countries such as Pakistan, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Nigeria, Nepal, and Tanzania. The forum received high recognition from the attendees and played due role in fostering communication, dialogue, collaboration and networking among researchers and experts from the "Belt and Road" countries in public health and people to people bonds. The message of converging health as a common need for the whole humanity and of science and technology cooperation as a crucial aspect in the quality development of the BRI was clearly passed on.
