Dr James Bolton from the University of Alberta visited IPE
Dr James Bolton, the former Executive Director of the International Ultraviolet Association, came to IPE on Prof. Cao Hongbin’s invitation on April 1st. He gave a presentation titled “Fundamental concepts of Advanced Oxidation Technologies with some examples”. Researchers from IPE attended the seminar.
In his lecture, Dr. Bolton reviewed the various AOTs that have been studied, introduce the fundamental concepts involved with photolysis based AOTs (including photochemical and kinetic rate concepts) and will present some examples, particularly in the use of AOTs to treat micro pollutants in drinking water. After the presentation, He was shown around to different laboratories, and talked with Prof. Cao on the possible cooperation in the future.
Dr. James Bolton got a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He has 35 years’ experience in photochemistry and ultraviolet technologies and has over 290 publications, including 10 books and 8 patents. He recently retired as Executive Director of the International Ultraviolet Association and now is President of consulting firm, Bolton Photosciences Inc, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada.
