Resume

CHEN Hongzhang is a Professor in Institute of Process Engineering (IPE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He has been on the list of most cited Chinese researchers in Biomass Energy Industry Technology for many years. He received his B.S. of agronomy from Nanjing Forestry University in 1983, M.S. of microbiology from Shandong University in 1991 and Ph.D. of biochemical engineering from IPE, CAS in 1998. Prof. Chen has more than 20 years of R&D experiences on steam explosion pretreatment technology and high-solid enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. He proposed steam explosion porous matrix theory and developed high solid multiphase biological reaction engineering technology. His technologies have been successfully applied to industrial production and acquired significant economic benefits. His current research focuses on comprehensive utilization and system integration of lignocellulose biorefinery including structure analysis, components separation and multistage transformation, new technology of high-solid enzymatic hydrolysis. Prof. Chen was awarded the Chief Scientist of the “973” project in the area of biomass energy. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed research articles, 6 books and over 150 issued patents. He has won the second prize of national technological invention 1, China invention gold prize 1 and excellence prize 1, and first prize of Beijing invention patent 1.
