Resume

Prof. Renman Ruan obtained his B.Eng. in Mineral Processing from Northeast University (China) in 1982 and his Ph.D in Biological Engineering from Central South University (China) in 2011. He has been a metallurgist for 35 years in which he spent 25 years in General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals in Beijingand 5 years in mining company.  He is currently a professor with Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.  His research interests are biohydrometallurgy, bioremediation and mineral processing. He has been working on fundamental research and technology development on bioleaching for more than 20 years. He with his co-workers has developed a distinct bioheapleaching technology for secondary copper sulphides, which is different from that practiced in Chile. A novel column test method has been built up to better predict leaching performance in industrial heaps. He with his co-workers has assisted building of two largest biohydrometallurgy projects in Myanmar (total of 150,000 tonnes of cathode copper per year, investment of 1.7 billion dollars) of Asia through joint technology research and technology transfer, and made the use of the newly developed technologies. In the area of flotation, he developed the new flotation technology of gold bearing pyrite, and the new technology for cassiterite flotation. In the area of processing of refractory gold mine, he has in charge the fundamental research and technology development of the two stage roasting technology, thermophile agitation bioleaching technology, heap bioleaching technology, and the ultrafine grinding technology.
