Resume
Prof. Weiguo Cheng, earned his Ph.D. degree from Dalian University of Technology in 2005. He was rewarded the senior visiting scholarship for visiting the University of Waterloo with Professor Flora Ng who is the Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada between 2010 and 2011. He has been professor of chemical engineering at Institute of Process Engineering, CAS since 2016. He is mainly engaged in green catalysis. He proposed synergistic catalytic effect of ionic liquids which provides a molecular level understanding of effect of hydrogen bond on the reaction and forms the basis of rational design of ionic liquids. He specializes in design of novel catalytic materials and catalytic process. He has promoted the novel technology application and industrialization. The plant for production of dimethyl carbonate and ethylene glycol was put into operation. He is author of 67 journal papers among which two papers were selected as Back Cover of Green Chemistry and 31 invention patents granted including 1 PCT patent. As project leader, he presided National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Program of China, National High-Tech R&D Program, Transformational Technologies for Clean Energy and Demonstration, Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, ect. He has been awarded Hou De-bang Innovation Award of Chemical Science and Technology of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China in 2018, CAS Science and Technology Promotion and Development Prize in 2017, First-class Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association Scientific and Technological Progress Prize in 2009, and Second-class Award of Beijing Municipality Scientific and Technological Innovation Prize in 2008. He is the member of Committee of integration of IT application and industrialization and the member of Ionic Liquids Professional Committee. His research interests include design of novel catalytic materials and catalytic process, synthesis of ionic liquid catalysts, mechanisms and kinetics of catalytic reaction, new catalytic process for CO2 utilization.
