  • John C. Crittenden

    Professor John C. Crittenden is the director of Georgia Tech’s Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of the USA. Crittenden is active in an array of national organizations. He serves on the Environment Protection Agencies’ Science Advisory Board as well as the Engineering Advisory Board for the National Science Foundation. He is also an associate editor for the Environmental Science & Technology journal. He has received multiple awards for his research, including the AEESP Landmark Achievement Award and the ASCE Huber Research Prize. The American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) Centennial Celebration Committee recently named Prof. Crittenden as one of the top 100 Chemical Engineers of the Modern Era at their 100th annual meeting held earlier this year. This recognition is based, in part, on his leadership as director of the National Center for Clean Industrial and Treatment Technologies, one of four exploratory environmental research centers funded primarily by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. 

    Prof. John is an accomplished expert in sustainability, pollution prevention, physical-chemical treatment processes, nanotechnology, air and water treatment, mass transfer, numerical methods, and modeling of air, wastewater and water treatment processes.  He has been involved as a principal and co-principal investigator in more than fifty-two funded research projects in these areas, totaling more than $25 million dollars in funding. He has authored more than 120 publications in refereed journals, 135 reports or contributions to proceedings, and has garnering more than 2,300 citations.   

    Since 2009, he has been an Honorary Professor at the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
