    Title: Design of Efficient Molecular Catalysts for Development of Advanced Polymeric Materials

    Abstract:

    Design of efficient molecular catalysts plays an essential role for control of molecular structures in the polymerization process, which should be highly effective for synthesis of (advanced) functional materials with unique properties.

    In this lecture includes:

    1) Metal catalyzed olefin coordination/insertion polymerization is a core technology for production of polyolefins that covers almost 50 % production of commercialized synthetic polymers in the world.

     2) Olefin metathesis is a useful method applied for synthesis of various polymeric, advanced materials. In particular, ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) has been employed for synthesis of polymers.

    3) Acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization has also been known as the effective method for synthesis of defect-free conjugated polymers, and the method enables introduction of functional groups at the chain ends.

     In particular, the method using molybdenum catalysts enables quantitative introduction of different end groups in each polymer chain end.

    About the speaker:

    Kotohiro Nomura is a Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science and Engineering; Editorial board of Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical, Elsevier, The Netherlands (1995-); Letters in Organic Chemistry, Bentham Science, USA (2007-); Catalysts, MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute) Publishing, Basel, Switzerland (2010-); Green Sustainable Chemistry, Scientific Research Publishing, Inc., USA (2011-); ISRN (International Scholarly Network) Chemical Engineering, Hindawi Publushing Co.,USA (2011-). His group has been involved for several years in synthetic and mechanistic organotransition metal chemistry, catalysis, organic chemistry and polymer chemistry. In particular, design of molecular catalysis for precise olefin polymerization, metathesis, chemo-selective organic synthesis.
