  • “Blood Moon” to Rise in Days

BEIJING, April 10 -- During the early hours of April 15, people who look up to the sky willbe surprised

about how the moon looks -- a "Blood Moon".

NASA said Wednesday that the total lunar eclipse will begin at around 2 a.m. EDT andending at 4:24 a.m. EDT.

Whenever the full moon passes behind Earth's shadow, we get aspecial event where the Earth and the moon are

aligned, therefore effecting in a total lunareclipse.

The moon typically looks white because the sun’s light hits it directly (in varying degrees, depending on

the phase), but on the day, the light will have to hit Earth first. In essence, observers will be able to

see the reflection of Earth’s sunrises and sunsets projected ontothe moon. The moon will appear a bit

colorful, some shade of red or orange.

The last time Earth experienced a total lunar eclipse was Dec. 10, 2011.

In all, four eclipses will occur in 2014, two lunar and two solar. (Xinhua)
