Phenylethanoid glycosides (PhGs) prepared form Cistanche Deserticola, the common traditional Chinese medicine to treat kidney deficiency, body weakness and constipation were proved to have medicinal functions such as antifatigue, neuroprotective effects and hepatoprotective effects and had wide application in medical field.
The conventional methods for PhGs separation from Cistanche are silica gel column chromatography, polyamide chromatography, high speed counter-current chromatography and preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. However, these methods are not fit for large-scale preparation.
To solve the problem, researchers with Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences developed an efficient method for large-scale preparation of PhGs from Cistanche with macroporous resin.
Eight kinds of macroporous resin were used to evaluate the adsorption properties and three selected resins were further studied the adsorption kinetic behavior. HPD300 resin showed the best separation efficiency. And the equilibrium adsorption of acteoside on HPD 300 resin fitted to Freundlich isotherm model well.
The results indicated that macroporous resin method was suitable for the large-scale preparation of PhGs from Cistanche deserticola. Please see the full text:
