  • National Key Technology R&D Program Successfully Passed Appraisal

Authorized by Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), on March 29, CAS held the evaluation meeting of the National Science & Technology Supporting Program (NSTSP) "Multi-scale Simulation and Amplification Technology in Process Engineering and Its Applications in Petrochemical Industry", undertaken by IPE. The members of the evaluation experts group were from Bureau of High-Tech and Development (BHTD) of CAS, Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), National Information Center, Institute of China Oil, China New Material Group, China Coal Research Institute and Institute of Software of CAS, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of CAS. Li Jinghai, vice president of CAS participated the meeting. Cao Hongmei, director of Materials & Chemical Engineering Section of BHTD presided by and more than 30 attended the meeting.

After five subproject leaders gave the research reports on the project, experts assessed that the project made major breakthrough in HPC application in petrochemical industry, proposed a creative technology idea about structural matching among problem, model, software & hardware, created a multi-scale parallel supercomputing mode, and built high-performance and high-precision multi-scale process simulation & amplification platform with self-owned intellectual property rights. The platform was applied successfully to the research of chemical engineering, metallurgy and energy fields and got notable improvement in application efficiency. On basis of Lumping Kinetics and multi-scale fluid dynamics, the 2nd subproject built integration model for isomerism of Alkenes production by MIP, the model successfully simulated the apparatuses of four factories including Gaoqiao, Yanshan Petrochem etc and got significant effects in industrial application; on basis of Multi-scale mathematic modeling and simulation & amplification method, the 3rd subproject developed several practical simulation and engineering optimization technologies used in G/L stirring reactor and crystallization equipment, optimized the process technology of producing caprolactam from Toluene and successfully applied to relative reactor reconstruction and industrial problem diagnosis; on basis of multi-scale simulation & amplification technology, the 4th subproject discovered the bubble movement principle of ionic liquid in researching of new ethylene glycol energy-saving production technology (EGESPT), predicted the exact gas concentration ratio, gas-liquid exposure surface area and absorption ratio of CO2 in ionic liquid. It laid foundation of reactor amplification, optimization and industrial application for the 80000 t/a new EGESPT technology package; based on the simulation technology of light olefins production by C4 hydrocarbon (LOP-C4H) by means of catalyst cracking technique, the 5th subproject developed a fixed-bed reactor with specific structural distribution in axial direction. And it provided basic data for 60000 t/a LOP-C4H full flowsheet technology package. The simulation results have been validated in industrial demonstration apparatuses of the 60000 t/a LOP-C4H.

According to expert group's conclusion, the project accomplished the expectant tasks and targets and passed the final acceptance. Further research on the project will be studied and the application of software will be strengthened to play the role of simulation platform effectively.
