From Oct 13 to 16, 2009, the Fifth Sino-US Conference for Chemical Engineering was successfully held in Beijing Fragrant Hill Hotel. The conference was organized by IPE, Chemical Engineering Dept of Tsinghua University and School of Chemicals, Tianjin University. The conference aims to bring together scientists and engineers from academia and industry and students to exchange and share their experiences, new ideas, and research results on all aspects of Chemical Engineering, and discuss the practical challenges encountered and the possible solutions to be adopted. The former 4 events were held in the year of 1982, 1997, 2000 and 2005 respectively.
The conference emphasized the key role played by chemical engineers to develop the processes, products and services needed by humanity in a more sustainable way as highlighted in the conference theme Chemical Engineering for sustainable development. The conference provided an excellent platform for promoting collaborations among researchers from China, US, and other countries and regions.
There were 14 main focuses in the conference: Fossil energy, Non-fossil energy, Resources and green technology, Materials and nano technology, Petrochemicals and fine chemicals, Separations and environmental technology, Particles and fluidization technology, Bioengineering and biotechnology, Catalysis and reaction engineering. Multiscale chemical system, Transport processes, Computer simulation and experimental validation, Quality and best practices in project management and so on.
