Modern Solid-state Fermentation Technology in the Production of Industrial Enzymes Available

Gas double-dynamic solid-state fermentation (GDD-SSF) technology for the production of industrial enzymes has been proven to successfully solve the problems of industrial production of biopesticide. However, few research using the technology in other fermentation industries. Bioreactor operation in solid-state fermentation (SSF) on a large scale was performed to test GDD-SFF’s applicability for the production of various enzymes and this technology was developed by researchers from Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 The pilot-scale bioreactor for GDD-SSF of 800 L was self-invented in the research. Four kinds of enzymes including pectinase, glucoamylase, protease and cellulose were used to comparative study in two different fermentation modes, GDD-SSF and static SSF.

 The whole processes of enzyme production by GDD-SSF and static SSF were studied to compare the effects of the two fermentation modes on enzyme production. It was showed that all the four enzyme activities prepared in the former modes were significantly higher than those in the latter. And the fermentation period is greatly shortened in GDD-SSF.

 The comparing effects of liquid-solid ratio and air pressure on enzyme production in GDD-SSF and static SSF fermentation modes were also investigated. Both the liquid-solid ration and air pressure range changed the capacities of enzyme production and heat transfer in SSF therefore impacted the fermentation. Results show that in GDD-SSF mode, there was decreased temperature gradient which was useful for online controlling in industry production.
