Title:Process Engineering at Multiscale – a Surrey Perspective

Abstract:

Process engineering concerns the conversion of raw materials into value-added products through translating customers’ needs into production systems in a wide range of industries, such as chemical, petrochemical, food, advanced material and pharmaceutical industries. Process engineering hence involves the design, optimization and intensification of chemical and biological processes, which are typically multiscale problems. In this talk, a brief overview of the wide range of research activities related to process engineering at the University of Surrey will be presented, which include energy and materials, digital & process innovation, water processing technology, health & food, formulations and products. In addition, how a multiscale approach can be taken to tackle challenging problems associated with process engineering will be illustrated. Furthermore, how the strategic partnership among Unilever, IPE and Surrey can be devised to further advance research agenda in process engineering will be discussed.
