The CAS scientific equipment research project “Rapid Membrane Emulsification Equipment”, undertaken by Prof. Guanghui Ma and associate Prof. Fangling Gong of Institute of Process Engineering, successfully passed its final acceptance, organized by Finance Planning Bureau of CAS in Beijing on Dec. 13th 2010. The attended experts assessed that “This equipment owns proprietary intellectual property rights with international leading level, and is highly recommend for extensive application to facilitate fabricating uniformly sized nano/micro emulsions and particles”.

Fabricating emulsions by traditional equipments always encountered various disadvantages, such as the size and size distribution was uncontrollable and non-uniform, which further resulted in poor reproducibility. To overcome aforementioned defects, this project focused on developing a kind of rapid membrane emulsification equipment to fabricate uniform-sized nano/micro emulsions and particles, with their size controllable between 50 nm to 10 μm, the coefficient of variation below 15%, and batch difference less than 3%. As developed equipment has not only satisfied the demand in scientific research, but also provided convenience for many corporations. The related technique has been being widely applied in our partners, such as Unilever in UK, GE and Pfizer in USA, and Hualan Biological Engineering Inc., and exhibits promising application potential in medicine, cosmetics and food areas.
