2017 CAS-TWAS Symposium on Green Chemistry and Technology for Sustainable Development (GCT2017) was successfully held in Institute of Process Engineering (IPE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from Sept. 4th 2017 to Sept. 6th 2017, strengthening international cooperation in green technology between China and developing countries, serving China’s Belt & Road Initiatives well in the long run.
GCT2017, the 6th of its kind, invited government officials, enterprises and world-leading experts from China, India, Egypt, Germany, Malaysia and other countries. The meeting’s chairman, Prof. ZHANG Suojiang, Member of CAS, Director General of IPE, introduced the work of CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Green Technology (CEGT) and achievements in S&T cooperation with developing countries. The representatives from industrial sector and developing countries also expressed their will to make more contributions to S&T cooperation and advances.
The meeting witnessed the MOU signing ceremony of International Joint Bio-mineral Laboratory between IPE and WANBAO Mining, China-Egypt Centre of Green Technology between IPE and El-Menoufia University, Egypt and Bio-material Joint Research Lab among IPE, Hei Long Jiang SINFER Bio PLASTIC CO. and Malaysia Innovation Hub. Chaired by Dr. WANG Zhenyu, Director of International Organizations, Bureau of International Co-operation, CAS, the signing ceremony ran smoothly and served as a milestone for win-win outcomes in the future.
Following the signing ceremony were plenary & invited lectures given by domestic and foreign experts like Prof. WAN Lijun, Prof. HAN Buxing, etc. The topics like “Surface Molecular Engineering for Functional Nanostructure Fabrication”, “Catalytic Conversion of Biomass and CO2 into Value-added Chemicals” have attracted wide discussion among lecturers and listeners.
In addition, distinguished guests paid a visit to Langfang Branch, IPE during the meeting. They visited many facilities like coal pyrolysis pilot plant, ionic liquid desulfurizing device and took high credit for what they have seen.
This year’s meeting was held against the backdrop of China’s Belt & Road Initiatives and wide range of S&T cooperation with other countries. Standing at the front edge of green technology, CEGT is committed to S&T innovation and serving better the country’s Belt & Road Initiatives with great efforts. The meeting in this year was a great success, laying solid foundations for cooperation in the future.
