The 59th Shuangqing Forum organized by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE-CAS) was held from February 22-23 in Beijing. The theme of the forum was 'relevancy and regulation of multi-scale mechanism in chemical engineering process'.

Vice president of CAS, Li Jinghai, CAS members Yuan Quan and Hu Ying, presided at the meeting and nearly 200 experts and scholars came from sixty universities and institutes attended. Li made a report on “breakthrough the bottleneck of meso-scale to welcome new era of chemical engineering”. He pointed out that meso-scale had become a key problem in technology, process and system levels and the basic research of chemical engineering would be from multi-scale to meso-scale.

The representatives had a discussion about the research progress of meso-scale and proposed novel ideas in chemical engineering after the meeting. The discussion mainly focused on 'meso-scale structure and regulation of chemical materials', 'interface phenomenon and Nano/Micro process', 'amplification and regulation in chemical process engineering' and 'system integration and optimization in chemical process engineering'.
