The National Engineering Laboratory for Hydrometallurgical Cleaner Production Technology (NELHCPT) was founded on November 2008, with the admission of China National Development and Reform Commission and the administration under the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. NELHCPT was oriented to satisfy the demands in metallurgical industries for energy saving, emission reduction, and high-efficiency, clean comprehensive utilization of metallic mineral resources. The amphoteric metal bearing minerals, including chromium, aluminum, titanium, and vanadium bearing minerals are the key research objects of NELHCPT. NELHCPT focuses on the fundamental and applied research on high-efficiency reaction system with sub-molten salt media, techniques and equipments for multi-component separation, comprehensive utilization and pollution control of solid wastes in metallurgical industries. As a significant technical and engineering platform of cleaner production technologies, NELHCPT aims to achieve the large-scale engineering technology transfer, promote and facilitate the development and application of cleaner production technologies in China’s nonferrous metallurgical industries.
NELHCPT has a complete set of advanced experimental and theoretical research means and apparatus for hydrometallurgical process investigation. Six research departments, including the R&D platform of high-efficiency, clean reaction system and key equipments for resources, the R&D platform of high-efficiency separation technologies and the corresponding key equipments for resources, the R&D platform of comprehensive utilization and pollution control technologies for solid wastes in metallurgical industries, the R&D platform of chemical and metallurgical products with high additional value, the R&D platform of scale-up test, optimization, integration, and industrial eco-chain construction for metallurgical process, the analysis and measurement platform, were set up under the administration of NELHCPT.
NELHCPT also has an experienced and advanced R&D team with perfect age, knowledge structure, as well as breakthrough and innovation abilities. Its R&D personnel includes a CAE member, a CAS member, an owner of the National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholar, two owner of 100 Talents Programme of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 15 professors, and 23 associate professors, with 93 students.
NELHCPT was directed and instructed by the NELHCPT Council and the NELHCPT Technical Committee. The First NELHCPT Council consists of 16 leading companies, design institutes, and industrial associations, including China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co. Ltd., China National Chemical Corporation, and China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association.
